LAVENDER HAZE

Oil & Mixed Media
40 X 30
2024

Description:

I drew a sketch back in 2020 of a place I'd rather be. This piece started as an acrylic painting, but I couldn't settle on the right colour palette and kept reworking it. For about 3 years, I left the painting unfinished and sat untouched until the summer of 2023. I came across 2 bikes in my garage that were blue and purple. Inspired by these bright colours, I started working on the painting again, this time using oil paints. Without a specific plan in mind, little by little, I added elements that I felt suited my colourful world. If you look closely, I included 3D cut-outs of paper to make the painting come to life, while maintaining an almost pop art style. I also incorporated mediums like pastels and modelling paste to add texture. Finally, in February 2024, I completed the painting, which I've titled "Lavender Haze" (yes I was listening to a lot of Taylor Swift..still am).

BLUSHING TIDES
Oil & Mixed Media
36 X 24
2019

Description:

I did this piece in the summer of 2019. Inspired by 2 things - my dream to live by the beach and the song "Sunset Lover" by Petit Biscuit. I was trying to capture the peaceful, beautiful feeling of watching the sunset from the coast. I experimented with different colours and shapes of the plants. I don't think I can ever do a traditional colour palette.

PORTAL TO THE PEAKS
Oil & Mixed Media
48 X 32
2023

Description:

Completed in the summer of 2023, this piece was inspired by the many side quests I had during my career. It was a time when I found myself working day jobs in retail, feeling lost about my true passions and direction in life. While working at one of those retail positions, the store I was working at had an arched fitting room, and sometimes I would fantasize about it being a portal to a world somewhere else and never looking back.

With this artwork, I imagined stepping into a dreamlike place with colorful mountains and flower fields. It was a challenging piece to create because I relied entirely on my own imagination. I experimented with different styles, paint strokes, and textures to bring this imaginary landscape to life. It's one of my favourite works I've ever produced.

I added a moon in this scene, which is inspired by the times I would look up at the moon at night and make a silent wish. My hope is that when you look at this piece, you'll feel inspired to make a wish of your own - whether it's about finding your path, chasing a dream, or simply finding whatever your heart desires.

BLUE REVERIE

Oil on Canvas
16 X 20
2019

Description:

My initial goal with this piece was to create a monochromatic style using blues, but I ended up incorporating yellows and purples as well to better match my overall artistic style. One of my favourite things to do is go hiking and enjoy nature, this is a forestscape into my dreamworld.

DAYDREAMS OF THE WOODS
Oil on Canvas
28 x 22
2019

Description:

I created this painting in 2019, during a period when I did not have a dedicated studio space and worked on my art throughout in the house. While working on this piece, I filmed my entire creative process and took inspiration from a song I discovered called, 'All the Little Things' by Tracey Chattaway.

HEAVENLY FEILD
Oil on Canvas
40 x 30
2020

Description:

This painting is dedicated to my grandfather. Back in 2020, was my first experience in losing someone close to me. One of the last requests he told me was to paint flowers and so I painted him a whole field. My grandfather loved gardening - in the house I grew up in the Philippines, our home was full of plants and my childhood was filled with memories of green. I believe that's where my love for landscapes comes from. Heavenly Field is where I picture him in peace, running around free, and healthy.

WELCOME HOME
Oil on Canvas
30 x 24
2023

Description:

This piece is dedicated to my grandmother. I started this painting in 2021 with more natural colours and left it unfinished. It wasn't until 2024 that I returned to the piece and completed it with a different colour palette.

The piece is inspired by the universal human experience of loss, departure, and reunion. Grief is something you can never fully comprehend until it is felt firsthand.

Growing up you always think that your family will always be complete, and death is not something you really think about. But when it did happen, it shook me to my core. One thing about death is that the world around us will remain unchanged. All the things they left behind will still be there and it's an emptiness you can't describe. For me, it's as if the universe refused to acknowledge my pain. While my heart was broken, everything else kept moving forward, and I had to find some way to make sense of this life.

During difficult times of loss, I had found myself feeling a deeper connection to God. In this piece, I used my own hands as reference. I looked up at the sky and pictured them holding my hand. The angelic ring represents the magic of eternity of the afterlife. This piece is for all the departed and never forgotten.

HORIZON
Acrylic on Canvas
24 x 36
2018

2.png__PID:6706e937-1997-4932-b778-aeb7d29ff6de
Description:

I painted this piece in my living room, and it's the main inspiration for all my other works. I remember really struggling with this painting. I was trying to do an abstract piece with acrylics, but I hated how it was turning out. There are a lot of failed attempts underneath the final painting.

After much frustration, that was the time when I discovered ODESZA's music. Their "A Moment Apart" and "In Return" albums sparked a curiosity in me that came naturally and encouraged me to dream of a place I've never been. They are one of my favorite artists, and their music really resonates with me as a happy person.

ODESZA's music has become the foundation for the rest of my works. The inspiration I found in their music continues to shape my style and vision.

HOME IN SULAYMAN ST
Acrylic on wood
2020

Description:

This is a mural painting I did during lockdown in 2020. It was during the time I was feeling homesick and thinking of my family back in the Philippines. My childhood home is something I hold very close to my heart and I wanted to paint something that reminded me of them. I took 2 old wooden bed frame pieces and glued them together to cover up the furnace in my unfinished basement bedroom.
